Class duty

Please be responsible enough to clean the class room when it is your turn to do duty. And those not doing duty for that day please be considerate by clearing the things under your table and throw away rubbish that is around you. Please do not litter. The person doing duty on that day will need to stay back after school for a long time to clean up the classroom. Please DO NOTbring FOOD and DRINKS to class as it dirty the classroom and attracts pest. Please be considerate by doing your part. Thank you.

Doing the NAPFA Standing Broad Jump

I was the tester for the Standing Broad Jump station for the past 2 days for the upper Sec's test, and looking at so many of them not being able to pass after 3-4 years of doing it in Secondary school makes me really concerned. Girls who can't pass it are usually not active enough, and boys who fail will have to suffer in the future during NS for the next 20+ years of their life unless they learn to do it properly one day.

I used to take videos of students doing the jump so that I can tell them what they need to improve on, and also got them to film me in action so that they can see what they need to do right. I should have wrote this long ago to teach more people how to jump properly, but I guess better late than never!

Step 1 - Good Swing

Both arms above the head, start a full swing of the arms. Arms must be straightened!

Step 2 - Ready stance

Ready to jump - One swing is enough to get going! If you swing real hard, your straight arms will go all the way back, and your body will naturally bend at the hips, ready to plunge forward like a swimmer into a pool. Legs at slightly bent, ready to spring.

Step 3 - Take Off

Arms swing back forward, legs bent and ready to spring whole body up. Foot on tip-toes, ready to push off. You cannot jump now! Wait till the arms go out first.

Airborne! If your swing is very strong, your whole body will be pulled forward when the arms swing out, and that's when you straighten your legs and jump off. Notiec the whole body is flying at a 45degree angle - the best angle for maximum distance!

Stage 4 - Landing

To get maximum distance, swing your legs straight forward from the hips when you are in the air - do not kick your legs behind when you jump, otherwise you cannot do this! Notice the legs are now far in front of the body, and the body will bend forward for balance; you'll look like a kangeroo. Many poor jumpers will land here, standing upright, instead of swinging the legs forward for greater distance.

Preparing for landing...body tucked forward to prevent falling backwards.

You should land squatting down, and if you need to press your hands in front for support.

Joke of the day

Hi Joberg here, here's the joke of the day.

4 football fans(Chelsea FC,Arsenal FC,Liverpool FC,Manchester United FC.) were in Saudi Arabia(Middle Eastern Country) drinking smuggled alcohol in their hotel room. All of a sudden, the police came in and saw them drinking alcohol. They were arrested(I don't know if it is illegal to drink alcohol in Saudi Arabia) because it was a serious offence. They were brought to the king in Saudi Arabia for their punishment.

"So,you guys have commited a very serious crime. But since it is my wife's birthday today and i am in a very good mood,I shall give you 20 lashes of the whip instead of imprisonment in jail for 20 years. But before the whipping,I shall give all of you 1 wish, but it cannot be escaping this punishment''The king said.

The Manchester United fan was first. He thought about it and said"I would like to have a pillow tied behind my back."But the pillow could only withstand 5 lashes of the whip, and he was brought away after the other 15 lashes.

The Arsenal fan was next.He thought about it and said"I wish to have 2 pillows tied behind my back. But the 2 pillows could only withstand 10 lashes of the whip, and after the other 10 lashes,he had to be brought away.

The Liverpool fan was 3rd.He thought about what he was going to wish for and finally said"I would like to have 3 pillows tied behind my back."But the 3 pillows could only withstand 15 lashes of the whip, and after the other 5 lashes of the whip,he walked away in pain.

The Chelsea fan was last. But before he could wish for anything, the king said"Ahh.You are a Chelsea fan.You have one of the best cities in the world, your city has the finest supporters, your stadium is the best in the world, your city is beautiful, the players are the best and me myself is a Chelsea fan.For that,i can give you 2 wishes!"

The Chelsea fan thought about it and said"I would not like to have 20 lashes of the whip, but 100 lashes of the whip would do just fine."The king was shocked and said"Wow!You are a brave, honorable young man who is willing to get punished seriously for his mistake.May i know what your second wish might be?"

The Chelsea fan smiled and said"Please tie the Manchester United fan to my back."

P.S:I would like to create a game called Football Manager during the June Holidays.I hope you guys will play the game!

Holiday outing?

Something to take our mind off study stress perhaps - let's think about what we might want to do, or where we would like to go, for a holiday class outing.

I prefer something outdoorsy, or activities that can involve all of us together. Post suggestions in the comments!

IFD victory!

We won IFD Captain's Ball!

All thanks to the sporting girls who ran hard and jumped high for the netball on Monday noon, 1E1 is going to be mentioned in front of the school and receive a team prize on Friday! Will be good to receive a different form of attention from Mrs Lim for once haha...

For those of you who heard about other class' girls talking behind our back, I want to remind everyone again of the the right thing to do - Do not get provoked, do not respond, do not counter-insult. There will always be people who cannot stand losing and will behave unsportingly after games, and we definitely do not want to tar our own reputation by hurling insults back at them. Getting into arguments with them will only show that we are as petty and ungracious as they are. Simply smile, walk away without saying anything at all, and leave them unsatisfied for not being able to provoke you.

That will not be easy, but then, any true test of character and maturity will be difficult. Let's show the school how true sportspeople behave!

Touch Football!

Our classmates did us proud in Touch football! I'm happy to say that I was there to see them play their hearts out and achieve some great results at the first Touch football inter-school games. It was a very wet and grey Saturday morning and I would usually be in bed still at that time, but it was definitely worth the drenching and the mud to get them to Bukit Timah and watch all the exciting matches.

Another photo of our school team -

Hope that we can continue to do our school proud with such representations in the future!

T-shirt done!

Finally! The T-shirt design is confirmed and sent for printing. It is a relief for me because I have spent so much time thinking about the design, getting feedback, thinking of solutions for the things that you guys didn't like. Actually, it's the first time I designed a class t-shirt - I like to be creative, but I find it hard to do creative things.

I'm quite proud of it, and I hope you guys are too. Sorry I couldn't keep it below $20l; like I said, for those who indicated that it is too expensive, you can pay $18 and I'll foot the rest. You can pay the sum to me slowly too, I don't mind that.

Cross your fingers and hope we can get it by Monday morning!

Class banner.

What i heard from Fatin was, they had to make a new class banner because the previous banner had unnecessary paint over it..

What i suggest was to buy a red paint to cover all the unnecessary paint...

But now i would prefer the new banner. It is neater and better.

They planned to finish the banner before the international friendship day.. We should all thank them for their hard work..

Word of the day..

Class spirit

Do we have class spirit?

By class spirit, I mean total cooperation and helpfulness towards each other in class. Excellence for Self and Others perhaps. You might think that your studies only depend on your own effort, but you need to know that whatever your classmates (or you) do will affect your studies and the teachers' teaching. Therefore without class spirit, it will be hard for all of us to improve together.

Do we:
  • help the duty personnel maintain the class's tidiness?
  • remind classmates to pay attention during lessons?
  • help classmates collect work if they are absent?
  • show courtesy and friendliness towards everyone in class?
These are just some ways in which we show class unity and spirit. Are we at that standard yet? If not, we will need to think about how we can do all this.

In 2 more weeks, it will be International Friendship Week, where there will be exhibition booths done by the Sec 4s for us to learn about different cultures, and also an inter-class games tournament. The boys will be playing soccer and the girls playing captain's ball, and that'll be a chance to show class spirit too. I really hope all of us can be there to play and also cheer for each other; winning classes will be awarded points for best class award!

But first, let's show some class spirit first - Can we finish up our class banner and the class t-shirt design first, so that we have something to show for that day?
